Muscular Dystrophy Support Device

Created as part of my senior engineering project, this device serves as a therapeutic tool for children with muscular dystrophy. Muscular dystrophy is a progressively degenerative muscle disease; for most patients, the very act of using their muscles contributes to their break-down. My group conceived of this device as a way to counterbalance the arm of a pediatric MD patient against gravity such that they could easily move their arm without excess strain and damage.

We designed the device to be parametric, and easily customized to suit the particular needs and measurements of each patient, as well as affordable and easy-to-assemble, putting it within the reach of many parents who can't afford more expensive instruments. I created an accompanying website to open-source the design and construction/assembly documentation.
